How is an Asadorian Oriental Rug different?
  Over sixty years experience has gone into the selection of each Asadorian Oriental Rug. An Asadorian family member personally and critically inspects every rug from its country of origin. We look for aesthetic beauty, intrinsic value, quality and price. We can therefore offer and assure you of the finest rugs obtainable at the most favorable prices.
Does an Asadorian Rug carry any special guarantee?
  We stand behind every rug we sell. Should your rug ever show undue wear, fade, shrink, stretch or show other faults, you will be allowed full credit for the purchase price or your rug toward its replacement. There is no time limit. You will never make a costly mistake.
Are Asadorian Rugs expensive?
  When an old company has a good reputation, this often carries with it the connotation of expense, but our reputation includes fair pricing as well as top quality. A good reputation does not equal high prices. At Asadorian it means just the opposite. Asadorian has no middle men, no commissioned agents. We buy direct from the source, from old friends. An Asadorian Rug is a work of art to be enjoyed by you in your generation, and by your children in theirs.
What kind of selection does Asadorian offer?
  Nearly 5000 rugs are constantly in stock from the Balkans, Turkey, Persia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and China. Also tribal textiles such as kelims, flatwoven dhurries, used, antique and estate rugs are available.
May I try an Asadorian Oriental in my home?
  If you wish to try a rug in your home before making a final decision, arrangements can easily be made. Anyone on our staff can help you.
Does Asadorian take care of Oriental Rugs?
  The family members of our firm are personally able fix your rug, from the simplest repair to the most intricate restoration. We clean, mothproof, and repair oriental rugs. In all cases we provide a written estimate and receipt before undertaking restoration or cleaning services.
Does Asadorian offer an appraisal service?
  We strongly recommend that you insure your oriental rugs against loss, and offer an appraisal service for that purpose. We also supply appraisals for estate and tax purposes. Asadorian appraisals can be made in your home or at our store. Fees available on request.
What determines handmade rug prices?
 
  • Age.     Verifiable antique, semi-antique or old rugs in good condition are more costly than new rugs. However, be wary of false claims of age fabricated by unscrupulous dealers to justify higher prices. If the dealer's word is the only evidence of the rug's provenance, insist on the opportunity to have an appraisal performed by an impartial appraiser. We categorize rug age as follows:
    New rug = Present day production never used on the floor.
    Used rug = rug produced and used 1 year to 49 years ago.
    Semi-antique rug = rug produced 50 years to 99 years ago.
    Antique rug = rug produced over 100 years ago.


  • Size.     Larger size rugs are more costly because of the extra time and loom size needed to complete the rug. Non-standard shapes are scarce, usually costing more because of wasted foundation material.


  • Knot density.     The tighter the weave (higher knot count), the longer time it takes to weave the more expensive the piece. There are some exceptions to this depending on the type of knot and weft used in the rug.


  • Country of origin.     Level of development and political circumstances greatly affect the cost and availability of labor which has an ultimate result in the pricing of hand made rugs. Also the currency exchange rate can be a major factor in price fluctuations from time to time.


  • Design.     Curvilinear and medallion rugs are technically more expensive than geometric or overall design rugs.


  • Dyes.     The type of dyes used (chemical dyes versus vegetable dyes) will have an affect on the rug price as well as the number of different colors used to produce the final product. The process of harvesting, curing, and grinding the raw natural dyes to produce color can sometimes add up to an extra year in rug production. Changing colors more often slows the weaving process down and makes it more costly.


  • Uniqueness.     One-of-a-kind rugs are more valuable than "continuity program" produced rugs. Some new program lines are more costly because of the size commitment and the stricter quality controls used by the importer.


  • Materials used.     The quality and grades of materials used such as the wool, cotton, and silk (or artificial silk) used in the rug has a great affect on the price and outcome of the rug. Long staple wool, native or not native to the weaving country, hand spun versus machine spun, as well as how many strands are spun together all help determine the final quality and price. If special finishes are applied, the materials used have a great importance because they can take on different appearances due to their quality (chemical washing, tea dyeing etc.).


  • Resource used.     Where and from whom you buy from can be a larger factor than what you buy. Purchasing closer to the source (direct from the importer) should save you money as opposed to a store which purchases from a distributor who purchases from the wholesaler who purchased from the importer. The more people involved between the original rug weaver and you factors into the price of the rug. Be especially alert to artificially inflated prices and misrepresented values such as "Going out of Business Sales", "Weekend Auctions", "Tent Sales", or other such schemes to lure you in to unreasonable pricing.


  • Time of the year.     Seasonal inventory, scarcities and gluts, order backlogs on new introductions to the design community, import quotas fulfilled before the end of the year all can affect price.


  • Fashion trends.     If the design world is "HOT" for a particular look it can drive prices artificially high. Beware, what is in today and expensive, may be out tomorrow and inexpensive!
